Today, we discussed how early ideals in European society began to be questioned. I discussed satire and allusions in some length. I also handed out a sheet on how to write a seven sentence introductory paragraph and another on stylistic devices (both linked below).
I then introduced the essay "The Lowest Animal" by Mark Twain. This is a satirical piece. Some parts and allusions are real; others are used for effect. Your job is to read it actively and then look up all the allusions (we had the computers). I have also linked this reading below. You will have this class and about half of tomorrow's class to do this activity.
