The due date for the essay is Wednesday at the start of class.
You will also have your reading comprehension exam on Thursday.
I also handed out a blue sheet: "How to Write a Multi-Source Introductory Paragraph", which I have linked below and put in your portfolio.
I have linked and pasted the assignment below as some of you are having trouble opening the links.
How to Write a Multi-Source Introductory Paragraph
Modern Hero Essay
Critical/Analytical Response to Literary
Texts Assignment
In literature, writers explore the nature of characters’
responses to difficult circumstances and what those responses reveal.
The Assignment
Write an essay in
which you examine one or more of the “modern” hero texts given. What idea(s) does the writer develop
regarding what is revealed through characters’ responses to hardship (the
character’s or others)?
In your planning and
writing, consider the following instructions.
- When
considering the work(s) that you know well, select a literary text or
texts meaningful to you and relevant to this assignment. Choose only from
the texts I have presented in this context (“Drop Box…,” “Lowest Animal,”
“Man in the Water,” “A Modest Proposal”).
- Carefully
consider your controlling idea
or how you will create a strong unifying
effect in your response.
- As
you develop your ideas, support them with appropriate, relevant, and
meaningful examples from your choice of literary text(s).
This is a two day writing assignment. I will expect a non-typed good copy for Wednesday
(before class). We will then prep for the multiple choice comprehension exam,
which you will write on Thursday, and I will give you time to type up your
essays on Friday.
